If you want a nice shield, you need to run HM, it's gonna be costier on the lockpicks, but you get rewarded with a lot more golds, and a lot less singlemods.
If you want echovalds, the echovald forest is where you should be :P Morostav Trail is said to be a fairly easy running spot, I've tried it a couple times, but never got the hang of it, so I don't run it that much^^
Pongmei Valley is literally a walk in the park, it's super easy and it yields a large variety of skins. So, if you wanna get used to chest running a bit, that's the best place to start imo.

There's a map on page 32 that shows the route in Melandru's hope. Chance of Echovald Shields and a couple of other nice skins, decent farm imo.

I run Morning Veil. It's rough... but I've had a good ratio of Echovalds, Gothics, Paper Fans, etc. I alternate between MV, Silent Surf (outcast loot), and Raisu Palace.

2. Boreas Seabed
3. Shadow's Passage
4. Melandru's Hope
5. Bukdek Byway
100-150 chests done and after that I'm hitting RA or do some mission runs ^.^

I loved this plan after reading it, so I went to start on a similar run last night but beginning with Bukdek Byway. I bought 100 picks and planned on as many runs in each spot that 20 picks would provide. Turns out, the plagueborn chest finally paid off for me - 20 picks turned in to about 40 runs and I shit you not but that chest showed up 90% this time! I scored an elite rit, elite ranger, elite ele tome, a few normal tomes, about 20 non-armor golds (scepters, axe and a few shields, etc) only about 6 grapes and the rest gold armors. I know this is probably not the reason why, but I ended up switching to my sin (I had been running this chest with my ranger), and added three heros all /p with copies of fall back and incoming, and added four henchies. Tonight, I'll continue with Pongmei Valley...

has been said that best drops are in Pongmei Valley, but to my experience i've never had good drops in Pongmei both in NM and HM. For an echovald shield you can also try normal Kurzick Chests in Echoval Forest....
But generally you don't chest run for drops, but for titles....also running some areas can provide really nice drops, but hunting a specific item is nerving....I tried hundreds chests near Afflicted and never had good drops, mostly purple and few gold armors
Run in the areas where you except to have specific drops, but don't cry XD

It always helps to pursue a certain item, it keeps you motivated.. I wanted a nice outcast so bad that I could do 100 runs after each other.. Irony of it? Only got 2 outcast shields in my entire pursuit of them.. And they were both absolute shit..

Lol, thx^^ But don't hope for it imo, I ran over 800 NM chests before I changed to HM, and the two shit ones were in HM :P You'll have a lot of Outcast bracers/boots/whatnot :P
Also, I'm running vermins atm, and i'm starting to get the flow, but I'm wondering.. Do they inflict slashing or piercing damage? Because they are usually with large groups and they can get me down pretty fast, extra hints on what damage they deal would be appreciated^^ I know celestial daggers deal piercing, so I assume they do too?

Yep, just tested with 2 armor sets, slashing for sure :P They practically can't hurt me with the slashing set, while they hit for 30+ with the piercing^^ Now to find a +10vsSlashing inscr for my shield :P

Reading over a few pages of this, I still can't really find an answer.
What would be the best place to run chests if I'm only looking for golds? I could care less what they are, so long as they are gold, & the number of chests is at maximum. Witman's folly seems to have a really bad gold drop rate.
A place that can preferably be ran in HM, as a sin, with a lot of running experience, so basically anywhere.

There's no safe place for having 100% gold drops, but in HM drop rate of golds is for sure higher than NM.
I've noticed in Prophecies a very bad drop rate, even at the end missions in HM. Try Pongmei Valley to begin ( HM )

In my experience, the best chest-time ratio you can possibly get is Silent Surf. 5 chests in 3 minutes regularly, sometimes spawns are a bit bad, so 4, and if you're really unlucky, but that almost never happens, 3.. I made a guide a couple pages back :P
Also, it's really a piss easy run, since every mob is fighting each other, and they barely notice you. I run it on my ssin as well, and it's like a walk in the park.
Also, run HM of course, yields about 8/10 golds in my experience.

And, I was talking bout chestrunning.. If you actually read my post, you would've noticed.. If you farm raptors 24/7 you get shit drops yes, but chests didn't get the same thing, because you'd have to be farming them at an insane rate to notice anything..
So, next time you decide to say something sarcastic, make sure it's well placed.. And reading ppl's posts would be a good idea too

Well from my experience, playing the game normally VQing and doing missions i hardly ever break a Lockpick at 6 hunter and 6 wisdom.
Today after one hour of chest running the same area i have broken 40 lockpicks in NM.
To say that there is not a anti-farm code that affects chest runners is BS. I dont care what Anet/Guru want you to belive. Its this same code that can be witnessed when farming the same area over and over to where it is near impossible to get a blue drop, let alone a purple or gold.
I can Fix this anti-farm code by doing missions, and Vanquishing.

Lockpick break/retain is completely unrelated to loot scaling.. So that's a load of BS right there..

If you play the game normally, your retention rate and odds of getting Gold over Purple will be higher than Chest running the same area, over and over and over.
